Focus On Your Strengths And They Will Grow

Don’t let a negative state rule you. Try not to pile the past into your negative statements. For instance if you and your boyfriend just broke up, don’t look at your history and conclude, “I’m unloveable.” If you do that, you get into a train of thought that takes you into places such as, “I’ll always be dumped.” “I’m not worth anything” etc.
Instead, look at what you offered to the person that you were in relation with. Sure, it ended, but praise yourself for what you contributed to him or her. Did you try to listen? Did you try to bring out the person’s potential? Of course you may have some weaknesses or traits that need work, but this doesn’t mean you should be putting yourself down.
Even if you feel that you were a bit of a door mat in the relationship, remember that the flip side of that means you are a caring, giving person. Your strength is that you considered the other person and treated them as important. You may need to gain balance and learn how to assert yourself as well, but this doesn’t take away from your good qualities and strengths. Praise yourself for what your abilities are and know that you can also work on the qualities you wish to change and which you feel can use a little bit of building.
